Human Resources Executives representing some of the biggest companies in Myanmar gathered at Melia Hotel to attend a luncheon hosted by Dr. Alexis Antoniades, Associate Professor and Director of International Economics at Georgetown University in Qatar.

The luncheon was organized by 3REGROUP and MYANMARKT.COM, the newly launched and premier classifieds website in the country.

Dr. Antoniades, who has been visiting Myanmar frequently over the past few years, said: “As the economy grows and many exciting new opportunities and jobs are created, productivity and income rise as well, helping families move out of poverty. Human Resource departments have a critical role to play in this transformation, but one that comes also with great responsibility.”

The engaged audience included executives from the banking and telecom sectors, as well as executives from major retail companies and bloggers, who were given the chance to network but also share ideas on potential collaborations and initiatives.

The event began with Dr. Antoniades highlighting that programs to teach CV building, cover letter writing, and interviewing skills, as well as initiatives empowering women in the labor force and creating meaningful and structured internship opportunities in collaboration with local universities can have a big positive impact on society and on productivity.

Ma Kyawt Shwe Yee Thway,  HR Director at Yoma Bank, mentioned that Banks are already engaged in many such important initiatives but agreed that more work needs to be done. This view was echoed by Ma Aye Mya Thida, HR Director of Coca Cola, and Ma Nandar Aye, R&S Section Head from AYA Bank, who said that creating meaningful internship opportunities is a must. Ko Aung Kyaw Zaw, HR Manager at CB Bank praised the gathering of the distinguished group and suggested that such meetings should take place more frequently. Ko Sai Kyaw Htet Oo, Senior Vice President at KBZSC also drew attention to the importance of post-employment training programs.

The event ended with a presentation of MYANMARKT.COM’s free and easy to use job posting platform that directly connects job applicants with companies. Ko Htet Myat Thu, VP at Telenor, praised the efficiency such a platform brings to companies and applicants, while Ko Poe Thet Htun, HR Director at Ooredoo, said he cannot wait to go back to the office and try MYANMARKT.COM’s platform.
