A celebration for the International Youth Day 2019 was held at the Myanmar International Convention Center-II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, in coincidence with the introduction of National Youth Policy.
The event was presided over by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye with the opening remark. The Union Minister said that Myanmar has adopted a youth policy as a guideline for the welfare and development of young people, and the policy is intended to help the new generation overcome various challenges by combining their creative ideas with the views and experiences of the elder persons.
He also advised the policy needs to be implemented to fulfill the different requirements in the states/regions and Nay Pyi Taw Council area as the young people contributed in adopting the strategies in the policy.
Dr Win Myat Aye also remarked young people have some responsibilities while they are following the policy.
He also said the frequent meetings will help the young people inform the ongoing situations, the requirements and different aspects in seeking their collaboration.
The Union Minister high-lighted on the education reform and the interrelations among development, learning and teaching in child development programme that is very fundamental for adult learning processes. He also emphasized that the merger of child development programme and the early child development measures will need the contribution of parents and teachers. The Union Minster also affirmed that the government has believed all the young people should enjoy equal and fair rights regardless of different places where they have grown up. In his conclusion remark, Dr Win Myat Aye invited all the young people, quoting the theme of International Youth Day 2019, “Transforming education”, to contribute their efforts together with the government.
Mr Ramanathan Balakrishnan, UNFPA Representative for Myanmar, presented the participation of their organization in developing the National Youth Policy (Myanmar).
Dr Win Myat Aye, also a Chairman of Myanmar Youth Affairs Committee, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi and Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe presented certificates for the representatives who took part in developing the policy.
Then, the national level strategic plan for youth policy (draft) was explained by Ko Thura Soe (a) Hein Htet, Joint Secretary of Myanmar Youth Affairs Committee, with an emphasis on the inclusion of 16 major provisions in the strategic plan.
After a talent performance show presented by an invited youth representative and the traditional dance of dance troupe from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Dr Win Myat Aye presented certificates and cash awards to them.
The ceremony was followed by a dialogue titled ‘Today’s Youth and the Future of Myanmar’ to mark the International Youth Day 2019, with the discussions of young people at the event.
