Korean Air, the largest airline and flag carrier of South Korea, has suspended daily flights to Yangon, as the COVID-19 outbreak has worsened in the East Asian country.
The suspension, which started on March 3, will continue until April 25. The airline said passengers who booked their flights between those dates have the option to reschedule or get refunds.
Korean Air is the main airline used by Myanmar nationals working in South Korea.
‘’I have a permit to visit my family in Yangon for two weeks. I have to go back to work in Incheon. As Korean Air cancelled my return flight, I have to book with another airline. It would costs more as Korean Air is the cheapest for migrant workers,’’ said Ko Min Min Thu, who works in Incheon.
Korean Air announced the suspension of all direct flights from Incheon to other cities in America, Europe, the Middle East, East Asia, Mongolia and Oceania.
Myanmar Airways International now offers the only flights between South Korea and Myanmar. A Yangon airport official said 14 airlines had cancelled flights to China due to the new coronavirus.
