The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population held a meeting in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday with representatives of employees and employers to find solutions how to reduce the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic.
At the meeting, Union Minister U Thein Swe discussed ongoing and possible impacts, including closures of industries due to shortage of raw materials and lack of commodity supply orders, reduction of workforce, disputes between employers and employees, labour protests, unemployment and possible consequences from suspension of overseas employment programmes.
He also recognized the problems of factories which are struggling for regular operating, while the workers are concerned about unemployment.
The Union Minister advised all the stakeholders to discuss the best way to overcome challenges and to conduct awareness programmes at the factories and workshops.
The government will set up the K100-billion-loan programme to help employers and business firms in garment industries, hotel sector and small-scaled enterprises.
Those present at the meeting made their suggestions on solving the problems caused by the Covid-19.
