THE Sports Science and Sports Medicine Conference 2020 was held at the Novotel Hotel in Yangon yesterday.

The conference was supervised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education of Ministry of Health and Sports and jointly organized by Myanmar Olympic Committee and Myanmar Women’s Sports Federation.

First, the conference was opened by playing the national anthem, followed by playing the video message delivered by Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe.

In his video message, Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe said the purpose of organizing the conference is to improve the sports community through “Exercise is Medicine (EIM)” programme, urging 48 sports federations and Myanmar Olympic Committee in Myanmar to cooperate with the ministry in marching towards to the goal. EIM initiative is beneficial to health, and a healthy nation can be built by its people doing physical exercises.

If people are healthy, there will only a few patients in the hospitals and quality health care from the doctors and nurses can also be received as they would have to take care of a few patients.

The aim of the conference held with the theme “Brighter Future of Myanmar Sports through Sports Sciences and Sports Medicines” is to become Myanmar sports community drug-free and stand with dignity, and conduct health care activities with   Exercise is Medicine (EIM) programme.

Afterwards, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Pyo Min Thein delivered an opening speech, and expressed his hope that Myanmar stands with dignity in the world, developing  sports science and sports medicine after the conference.

Afterwards, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein detailed the beginning and condition of sports science in Myanmar, and the role of sports medicine.

The conference was then opened by UPC Chairman Dr Tin Myo Win, Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thien, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein, Permanent Secretary Dr Thet Khiang Win, Director-General U Myo Hlaing, Dr Ye Tint Lwin and international scholars who will deliver addresses the event.

UPC Chairman Dr Tin Myo Win, Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thien and party also observed the sports medicine booths displayed at the conference.  In the second session, 14 academics from six countries delivered the speeches on sports science and sports medicines.
