The LGBTQI community is giving a big thumbs up with excitement over the new crop of emojis.

Among the 117 new emojis that could hit Apple’s next update are the trans flag, a trans symbol, a gender-neutral bathroom sign, a gender-neutral Santa and a rainbow cat piñata. Last week, Twitter users went wild for the new, inclusive signs.

“TRANS FLAG EMOJI TRANS FLAG EMOJI NEW INCLUSIVE WEDDING EMOJIS INCLUSIVE PARENT EMOJIS IM GOING BONKERS IN F–KING YONKERS I LOVE THIS,” tweeted @lenasabrewing.

And GLAAD also lent its support, tweeting, “The trans flag and other inclusive emoji are being added for 2020.”

But there is some controversy as the emoji pool also contains a “pinched fingers” emoji, which is supposed to represent the universal “whaddya talking ’bout” gesture, or the Italian phrase “ma che vuoi,” meaning “finger purse” — however, it is also a rude gesture for the sexual act called “fisting.”

The new emojis were announced on Tuesday by the Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit that maintains software standards.
