MYAUNG Zee (or) Hmont ethnic community celebrated their New Year festival at Sanpya village in Hopan town of Wa Self-Administered Division yesterday morning.
Dr Kyaw Tun, the Rector of Lashio University, made a speech to mark the festival, and the Myaung Zee (or) Hmont Ethnic People Development and Cultural Group’s Chairman U Soe Min explained the history of their people and celebration of the festival.
The festival was also held with traditional spinning top fighting contest and traditional dance of cultural dance troupe.
Myaung Zee (or) Hmont people are living mainly in northern, southern and east-ern Shan State, as well as in Wa Special Region -2. The festival was the second time of its kind.
