THE world’s biggest book sale, The Big Bad Wolf, made its second return to Myanmar at Myanmar Expo Hall, Fortune Plaza, in Thaketa Township of Yangon yesterday.
At the opening ceremony, Ready 2 Read Myanmar’s Director U Myo Aung, who are organizing the fair, Deputy Director-General Dr Aung Swe Tun of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team under the Ministry of Education, and officials from Save the Library delivered opening speeches.
They then cut ceremonial ribbons to officially open the fair and browsed through the book aisles inside.
When asked about the book sale, U Myo Aung replied that books are the doors to knowledge and the foundation for elevating innovation, a requisite of the 21st century. He voiced his belief that visitors will be pleased with the large collection of new books on sale for rare discounted prices.
U Tun Tun Win of North Dagon Township said that a lot of young people visited the book sale, adding that it was a positive development for both the youths and the nation. He said the books in English language on sale there will help promote English proficiency and gain valuable knowledge. He wished for more private businesses to organize book sales like this in line with the Ministry of Information’s facilitation of Children’s Literature Festivals.
Widely known for its attractive discounts of 50% - 90% off recommended retail prices, the Book Sale will feature a diverse collection of books from different genres. The Book Sale opens to the public for 11 consecutive days from January 10th to 20th, from 9AM to 12 Midnight. Entrance to the sale is free.
The available genres range from bestseller titles, novels, science fiction, romance, literature, graphic novels, business books, self-help, architecture books, cookbooks and many more. Parents will also be able to find a wide offering of children’s books for all ages such as storybooks, activity books, board books, coloring books, picture books, and interactive books.
