Christmas came early on Wednesday for George Michael fans.

The gift from the heavens arrived in the form of “This Is How (We Want You To Get High),” a previously unreleased song from Michael that marks his first posthumous music since he died on Christmas 2016.

Upbeat but with a melancholy streak, the track — co-written and co-produced by Michael and James Jackman — was started in early 2015 before being completed late that year in the “Faith” crooner’s final recording sessions.

With its sophisto-pop lushness to match Michael’s velvety vocals — oh so good to hear again — “This Is How” recalls the sound of 1996’s underappreciated “Older” album.

“This is how we want you to get high/This is how we want you to get by/Beyond your sorry lives,” sings Michael, seeking to uplift people in a time when “it’s hard to be more than we’ve seen.”

“This Is How (We Want You To Get High)” arrives just two days before Friday’s release of the holiday movie “Last Christmas,” which was inspired by the 1984 Wham! yuletide classic of the same name. The film — starring Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) and Henry Golding (“Crazy Rich Asians”) — features other music by Michael and Wham!, including “Everything She Wants,” “One More Try” and, of course, “Faith.”

And as far as we’re concerned, the more George Michael, the better.
