THE opening ceremony of the 19th Science Council Asia (SCA) was held at Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi first spoke at the ceremony. He said Myanmar is part of the 32 members states to the SCA and there are exchanges of skills and good practices in joint research efforts. He said the Myanmar Arts and Science Group needs to increase cooperation with SCA in the innovation sector. He said that in this conference experts will be sharing their skillful perspectives and hopes that they will not only discover the main issues in Asia but also solutions to them.

Next, China’s Vice Minister of Science and Technology Dr Wang Xi, Myanmar Arts and Science Group Chairman Dr Thet Lwin, Asian Development Bank Vice President Dr Bambang Susantono, and Myanmar Arts and Science Group’s first chairman Dr Than Oo delivered separate addresses. The paper reading sessions on various topics then commenced as scheduled.

The 19th SCA will continue till 5 December and has organized 108 paper reading sessions under one main topic and four sub-topics, in addition to two joint research project workshops.

SCA was formed in 2000 and Myanmar Arts and Science Group become a member of SCA in 2012.
