The line-up players for the Myanmar national football team that will compete in international matches this year have been selected by head coach Antoine Hey, announced U Than Toe Aung, chair of the Myanmar Football Federation’s Technical Committee.

None of the players of Hanthawady United which leads the Myanmar National League were included in the players list released on Tuesday.  “The selection caused some negative feedback from the public, but the coach has to be able to make his own decisions,” said U Than Toe Aung.

“We are also hearing the criticisms but I don’t want to give any remarks on his choices as he had watching the league matches himself and selected those who would be the best fit for his tactics.”“However, this is just a preliminary round and changes could be made. The coach made the selection. It is his choice,” he said.

The 23 players selected for Myanmar’s national team will enter training from March 12 to 21. The players will be based at the Sky Star Hotel. In the current list, players who are playing for foreign clubs have been exempted from the training camp due to conflicting schedules and difficulties in travel arrangements, U Than Toe Aung said.

Although Myanmar was initially set to play qualifying matches for the World Cup and Asian Cup on March 26 and 31, the fixtures have been postponed due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.
