UNION Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye received the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Myanmar, Ms Christine Schraner Burgener, and delegation at his ministry in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on resettling IDPs, sharing details of the master plan to close down temporary camps to relevant state/regional governments, representatives, CSOs and INGOs, future implementation of the plan, clearing explosive mines as an important part of the resettlement process, coordination to begin closing temporary camps in Kachin and Rakhine states, setting laws, bylaws and policies to implement the rights of women and children, current processes for implementing peace, stability and development in Rakhine State and continued assistance from ASEAN, negotiations between the two countries to begin accepting IDPs who fled to the other country, humanitarian and rehabilitation for IDPs in Rakhine State, the report of the Independent Commission of Enquiry formed by the Myanmar government and its future processes, and having the international community understand Myanmar’s genuine efforts.
