The Badminton World Federation has ranked star player Thet Htar Thuzar as the No 2 seed for the Myanmar International Series to  be held at the Myanmar Badminton Federation headquarters stadium in Yangon from September 10-15.


India’s player Mudha Agrey gained the top spot in the BWF rankings for the international tournament Myanmar will host for the first time.

“Thet Htar Thuzar has been seeded No 2 seed due to her world rankings. She has a chance to win in this event. The player lists will be changed before withdrawal date before this tournament,” said U L Brang Mai, Secretary of the Myanmar Badminton Federation.

The tournament will include five categories recognised by the BWF – men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The total prize money for the tournament is set at US$10,000 and the champions for men and women singles events will be awarded US$750 each. The winners for all three doubles events will receive US$790.

There will be no entry fees for the audience.

Some 143 players from 12 countries have registered to participate in this championship although the list is not final because the players can still withdraw by August 26.



Players from Australia, China Taipei, Cyprus, England, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan will compete in this series.

Myanmar is planning to enter 16 players in the championship.

The Myanmar Badminton Federation will host the International Series badminton tournament in Myanmar for the first time.

Thet Htar Thuzar has six international championship titles under her belt: the Egypt International Badminton Series in 2018, Uganda Badminton International Series, Kenya Future Series, Mauritius Fleet International Series, Benin International series and Cote d’ivoire International Series in 2019.
