Hillary Duff alluded to some trouble with Disney in the wake of the decision to pull the “Love, Simon” television adaption from Disney+.
The actress, 32, shared a screenshot to her Instagram story of an article from The Advocate with the headline “Love, Simon TV Show Pulled From Disney+ as It’s Not ‘Family-Friendly'” and circled the words “family-friendly.” Duff captioned the screenshot, “Sounds familiar.”
The mother-of-two was working on a reboot of the original “Lizzie McGuire” series with Disney+ when it was announced that the original show creator Terri Minsky quit her role as showrunner, stalling production.
Disney originally told Variety that they were moving in a “different creative direction” with the show.
“After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show,” a Disney spokesperson told the outlet. “Fans have a sentimental attachment to ‘Lizzie McGuire’ and high expectations for a new series.”
However, sources close to the production of the reboot later told Variety that the star was not happy with Disney’s decision to fire Minsky. The revival was slated to be an adult version of Lizzie’s life, but Disney wanted to keep it more like the original, appealing to kids, according to the report.

Original cast members including Adam Lamberg, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas had signed on to join the show. Disney+ shared a sneak peek of the revival back in January.
As for the TV spinoff of “Love, Simon,” the show called “Love, Victor” will follow the lead character played by Michael Cimino as he adjusts to a new city and high school, faces at-home challenges and struggles with self-discovery and his sexual orientation.
Disney passed, according to Variety, over concerns the show, which explores issues like alcohol use and sexual exploration, would not fit in with the “family-friendly” content on the streaming service.
