YANGON, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar exported 192,980 tons of rubber worth of 247.56 million U.S. dollars in the first 11 months from October to August of the present fiscal year 2018-19 , exceeding the targeted of 170,000 tons, according to the figures of the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday.
The rubber exports increased by 41,090 tons compared with the same period of the previous year of 2017-18 when it registered 151,890 tons worth 184.36 million U.S. dollars.
There are over 1.63 million acres (660,100 hectares) of rubber plantations across Myanmar and its rubber is mostly exported to China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, India and Japan.
Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association has called on growers and all stakeholders in the rubber supply chain in the country to make efforts to produce profitable quality rubber to boost the export.
Meanwhile, a rubber law is being drafted to pave the way for setting up a central rubber market.
Rubber is mainly grown in Mon and Kayin states and Yangon, Bago and Tanintharyi regions.
