UNION Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe presided over the daily meeting (24/2020) on prevention of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
At the meeting, the minister discussed the spread of disease in some countries, preventive measures against it, collection of global information about COVID-19 at the Central Epidemiology Unit, doing reviews and analysis and reporting updated situations.
The Union Minister also advised to learn successful medical treatments on the positive cases in regional countries, and make an assessment on the achievement in awareness campaign at the border towns.
He added increasing momentum for surveillance and screening the visitors arrived from South Korea, Japan and Singapore, collaboration with the hotels and guesthouses they stay, coordination among the officers from the immigration department, custom departments and aviation department.
The Minister called for conducting surveillance more closely at the residential areas of Chinese visitors, and awareness campaigns on public buses, express cars and passenger ships.
He continued to say tightly control on the arrival of foreign cruise ships into Myanmar, and to check the previous 14-day travel histories of passengers onboard cruise ship as they are scheduled to visit Myanmar on 4 March, to review free visa programmes for visitors from some foreign countries. He also discussed accumulation of medicines and medical equipment, systematic taking of specimens from the suspected patients and report on medical treatments for COVID-19 at the private hospitals and clinics.
Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe suggested the Myanmar Red Cross Society to conduct screening mainly at the border crossings, changes of norms to confirm COVID-19 in accordance with rules of the countries on the disease, while the MoHS and other relevant ministries need to utilize more human resources, budgets and equipment.
