The NHL has its first coronavirus case after a member of the Ottawa Senators tested positive for the virus, the team announced Tuesday.
The unnamed player has mild symptoms, and is in isolation, according to the team.
It marks the first case for the NHL, which joined the vast majority of professional sports leagues last week in suspending play because of coronavirus.
The team said it would be alerting anyone who would have had close contact with the player.
Locally, the Senators played the Islanders in Ottawa on March 5, though it is unclear whether the player had the virus at that time.
Seven NBA players have tested positive for the coronavirus, including Brooklyn superstar Kevin Durant and three other unnamed Nets players.
The Senators played the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center on March 11 — one day after the Nets played the Lakers at the same arena.
The hockey website, The Fourth Period, reported that the Senators used the same visitors locker room as the Nets.
