THE National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) concluded the two-day workshop in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, with a wide range of topics on peace making process of the country.
The second-day workshop was attended by Secretary of Peace Commission Retired LtGen Khin Zaw Oo, Vice Chairman of Joint Monitoring Committee at Union Level (JMC-U) U Maung Maung Nyein, Committee’s Secretary Col Wunna Aung, Executive Director U Aung Naing Oo, Permanent Secretaries of the ministries, the Directors-General, the Managing Directors, officials from Shan, Mon, Kayin and Kayah governments and the invited guests.
Col Wunna Aung explained the reasons and objectives for the formation of JMC, its basic principles, procedures, implementation, signatories of ethnic armed organizations in JMC, and the responsibilities of JMC.
Executive Director U Aung Naing Oo clarified the works of JMC in monitoring, scrutinizing and conflict settlements, technical assistance, opportunities and challenges in ceasefire efforts.
JMC-U’s Vice Chairman U Maung Maung Nyein presented the committee’s strategy, important points, trust-building, benefits of round-table talk and ongoing developments.
Director-General U Zaw Htay of the Ministry of Office of the State Counsellor briefed on the histories of ethnic armed organizations, peace-making efforts of successive governments, emergence of NCA during the administration of former President U Thein Sein, points of agreement in NCA, important of political dialogues, formations of UPDJC and JMC, preparations for organizing the Union Peace Conference - 21st Century Panglong, making more agreements on the peace-making processes beyond 2020, interim programmes, basic principles for local developments, national reconciliation, transformation into federal system, expectation of States, persuading the non-signatories EAOs and other challenges.
The attendees discussed cooperation of their departments in peace-making process and future plans which were coordinated by Retired Lt-Gen Khin Zaw Oo before concluding the workshop in the afternoon.
