San Francisco 49ers fans need to thank Tom Brady for Jimmy Garoppolo’s impressive form.

That’s according to ex-Jacksonville Jaguars hero Maurice Jones-Drew, who reckons the 27-year-old benefitted from Brady’s expertise.

aroppolo spent three seasons at the New England Patriots before leaving in 2017.

The 2014 draft pick suffered an injury ravaged 2018 season, but now he’s firing on all cylinders.

Jones-Drew reckons Brady played an integral role in making Garoppolo the player he is now.

“You can learn a lot from Tom Brady - arguably the greatest player in the history of our game,” he told Starsport.

“You see that with Jacoby Brissett as well.

“Both of these guys have learned under Brady and then they’re going to other organisations and flourishing.

“A lot of that is because they are smart players and get the ball out quick.

“Their styles are different but they play the game the same way - all three of them.

All I know is whoever is the backup for Brady will get a starting job in the league somewhere.”

Garoppolo has been touted as a potential MVP contender.

Jones-Drew, however, says that’s wishful thinking for the 49ers quarterback.

He’s not MVP yet,” he added. “You’ve got to have some crazy number to be an MVP.

“I think you’re looking at guys like Christian McCaffrey, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson - those numbers are crazy.

“It’s all about numbers. Garoppolo has the wins but he doesn’t have the number to back it up.”
