UNION Minister Thura U Aung Ko of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture inspected the maintenance work of ancient Fort Danubyu in Ayeyawady Region, where late General Maha Bandoola resisted the British during the First Anglo-Burmese War.
First, the Union Minister was briefed by Director-General U Kyaw Oo Lwin of the Department of Archeology and National Museum on the history of ancient Fort Danubyu, which was primarily constructed by the Mon kings and renovated by General Maha Bandoola to defend the British attacks; on the measures to maintain the fort by keeping its ancient style and avoiding the losses of its brick parts across the Ayeyawady River, with 2019 - 2020 financial year funds; and on the measures to construct the necessary landscapes around it.
Next, the Union Minister and party watched the General Maha Bandoola Memorial Statute at the place within the compound of the State Pali University Uphill Monastery in Danubyu and gave instructions to make efforts to attract foreign visitors as well as to uplift morale of the next generations. He also paid homage to the Kyaikalunpun Pagoda and met members of the Pagoda’s board of trustees.
