Greta Thunberg’s younger sister, Beata Ernman, will star in a musical this fall alongside her opera singer mother, Malena.
Ernman, 14, will portray a young version of French cabaret singer Édith Piaf, famous for the song “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien,” while her mother will play Piaf as an adult.
“As long as I can remember, I have danced and sung,” Ernman told German news agency dpa. “To be able to perform her immortal music is a dream come true.”
The musical “Forever Piaf” will premiere in Stockholm on Sept. 19.
Beata, who Thunberg has described her as her “super talented sister,” comes from an impressive line of artists. Malena, an internationally recognized mezzo-soprano, represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 with her opera-infused song “La Voix,” Germany’s Deutsche Welle reported.
Thunberg, 17, takes her last name from their father, Svante Thunberg — who works as a screenwriter and film producer.
Svante Thunberg’s father, Fritz-Olof Thunberg, is a Swedish actor and voice actor with dozens of film credits.
Beata suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, according to “Scenes From the Heart,” a 2018 biography about the family.
It was also recently revealed that Greta would star in her own docuseries, touted as a coming-of-age story, by BBC Studios to highlight the reality of climate change.
Thunberg released a book last year of her speeches about climate change called, “No One Is Too Small To Make a Difference” — which became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller. The Thunberg family wrote a new book together called “Our House Is on Fire,” set for release in March.
Piaf was also famously portrayed by French actress Marion Cotillard in the film “La Vie en Rose” — for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2008.
